Activities

At Amani Forest Camp there is a lot to do and see. We have all sorts of activities for all sorts of people. All our activities are listed below,
so have a look and see if there is something for you.

CHAMELEON & TREEFROG NIGHT HIKE

We arrange of short night walks departing from Amani Forest Camp –  Emau Hill to find endemic species of chameleons. Chameleons are very hard to find during the day but at night they glow white in torchlight.  This makes them easier to spot.  Our expert guides will accompany you and make sure that you enjoy your night hike – make sure you have a good torch.  This is a great activity for children of all ages.

Just a short walk from camp you can find several species of chameleon including the pygmy Rhampholians. In addition to the pygmy chameleons a notable endemic of the Usambaras is the spectacular Usambara three horned chameleon  (Chameleo deremnsis). The Usambara two horned chameleon is less frequently seen.

BIRDING

Just walking around the camp, and the surrounding fields you can see many species of bird including some notable endemics, like the Usambara eagle-owl. Take the enclosed bird check list with you and see how many you can spot – and if you can add to the list! Please be careful not to trample our neighbours’ crops, but feel welcome to wander around the fields. All our neighbours are friendly.

The spectacular views over the forests is great for Raptor Viewing and we have a variety of eagles including the long crested, tawny and crowned eagle.  The forest buzzards and gymnogenes are also frequently seen over camp.

AROUND AMANI FOREST CAMP

The camp is known locally as Emau Hill which is the name of the hill on which the camp stands.  Emau Hill’s lush green grounds are on the border of the pristine rain forest of the Amani Nature Reserve and offer excellent views of the forest.

Wander around the camp, and relax in our forest seats, bar or your chosen spot. Some games can be found in the Restaurant as well as a wide range of novels and literature.  Wherever you decide to settle, drinks can be brought to you throughout the day by our friendly staff.
